Bank-Fund Flyers Live Up to Their Name in Credit Union Team Competition At Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run
A team of runners from the Bank-Fund Staff Federal Credit Union ran the fastest combined team time ever posted in the Credit Union Team Challenge at the 2007 Credit Union Cherry Blossom
Ten Mile Run held on April 1, 2007 in Washington, DC. The spirited competition among teams from participating Credit Unions from around the country attracted 34 teams this year. None of them could catch the “Bank-Fund Flyers” team as its three scoring
runners—
Martin Lanz, David Andrews, and Maria Kozloski—
produced an aggregate team time of 3 hours 5 minutes and 39 seconds. This bettered the old record of 3:08:21 set by the Astronauts team from NASA Federal Credit Union back in 2005. Lanz’s individual time of 54:35 was also the fastest ever time posted by a runner competing on a Credit Union Team. The winning team receives, and keeps until next year’s race, the coveted Credit Union Cup trophy donated by Northwest
FCU.
The Mercury team representing NASA FCU placed second in 3:07:11, a time that also bettered the old record.
The Credit Union Team Challenge is designed to showcase support of the event by the participating Credit Unions. Even those Credit Unions who finished further back in the team standings rallied under the banner of some very creative team names, including the “Pluto, The Planet” team from NASA FCU (20th place team), the “Chocolate Calientes” team from the United States Postal Service FCU (28th place team), and the “Rate Setters – Net Tellers” from the Federal Reserve Board FCU (5th place team). The Credit Union team members as well as all the 10,700 finishers at the event where cheered on by nearly 900 Credit Union volunteers.
The Credit Union Cherry Blossom
Ten Mile is sponsored by the Credit Union Miracle Day Committee, a partnership of over 80 Credit Unions and 40 Credit Union supporters. Since Credit Unions became the title sponsor of the event in 2002, over $2.5 million has been raised to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network’s 170 hospitals serving children across the North America. This year’s total collected funds of $828,000 set a record.
