Scoring Overview

runnerbt.gif 0.9 K The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run uses the ChampionChip© for scoring. Each runner wears a transponder chip on his or her shoe. (Did you return your chip?)  A time and chip number were recorded as the runner crossed a set of special mats at the starting line and again at the finish. Thus, there were three times associated with each finishing runner:

  • Race Start Time - The time the starting gun/horn was sounded. Same for everyone.
  • Runner Starting Line Time - The time the runner crossed the starting line mat.
  • Runner Finish Time - The time the runner crossed the finish line mat.

From these times, two values are calculated for each runner:

  • Gun Time = Runner Finish Time  -  Race Start Time
  • Net Time = Runner Finish Time  -  Runner Starting Line Time

Thus, the Net Time provides you with the time you actually ran the ten mile distance. However, in accordance with USATF and IAAF rules, the Gun Time is your official finish time for the purpose of official results and team scores.

So, if you want to brag that you did [your net time] for the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile, go right ahead; you've earned it. Just remember, however, that it's your Gun Time that will go into the record books.  Regardless of your time -- Gun or Net -- we hope you enjoyed the race.

Still have your chip? - Please return it.

If you left the finish area without turning in your ChampionChip, please return it in the postage-paid envelope provided in your race packet.  If you no longer have the return envelope, please call 301-587-0005, and you can make alternate arrangements. If your chip is not returned, you will be charged the $30 replacement fee. Thanks for your cooperation.
