Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk Capitol Hill Competition
Welcome to the special Congressional Registration website for the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk. Due to the continued restrictions brought on by COVID-19, we are now offering TWO ways to participate in the 2021 race – a Virtual Run March 20 – April 11 and in In-person Run on September 12!
We will hold a VIRTUAL RUN during our usual timeframe for the “Runner’s Rite of Spring” from March 20 – April 11. These dates coincide with the dates of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. There will be no special Congressional registration for this event, but we hope you will participate in this year’s Virtual Edition of the Runner’s Rite of Spring! All registrants receive a Virtual Run medal and a cotton t-shirt. Virtual Run registration opens on February 1, 2021.
We will hold our traditional Capitol Hill Team and Individual Competition as part of our IN-PERSON 10 Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk on September 12, 2021. Guaranteed entries (at the prevailing entry fees) to the event will be available for Members of Congress and Capitol Hill staffers. While nothing can be completely certain with COVID-19, we are optimistic that there will be a vaccine in wide enough distribution for the event to take place safely in-person at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation to make sure that the race can proceed in a safe manner. Congressional Registration for the 2021 In-Person Race will take place between June 15 and July 31, 2021.
If cancellation of the in-person race does occur, registrants will have several options on what happens with their entry fees.

About the Ten Mile Run
The 10 mile is held on a flat, fast course with five water and aid stations on the course. Entrants must complete the 10 mile in under 2:20:00 net time. The 10 mile will start at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Congressional registration will take place between June 15 and July 31, 2021. You should not enter the general race lottery because you will receive a guaranteed entry (at the prevailing entry fee) for the Capitol Hill Competition.
The 5K Run-Walk is designed for individuals who don’t wish to attempt 10 miles, or for walkers and relaxed-pace runners who feel they would take longer than 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete 10 miles. All 5K Run-Walk entrants receive the same amenities as the 10 milers, including the official race t-shirt, their overall times and places in the event, and post-race food and drink. The time limit for the 5K is 65 minutes, or 21 minutes per mile for 3.1 miles.
The 5K Run-Walk is limited to individuals who have pre-registered. Congressional registration will take place between June 15 and July 31, 2021. You should not enter the general race lottery because you will receive a guaranteed entry (at the prevailing entry fee) for the Capitol Hill Competition.
The 5K Run-Walk will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
If COVID-19 forces us to cancel the in-person race after registration has begun, Capitol Hill runners accepted into the 2021 in-person race via Congressional registration will have three options:
- A full refund of your entry fee of $50 for the ten mile and $40 for the 5K Run-Walk (with options to have your shirt and medal ordered shipped to you for $10.00, or available for pick-up at the race office, warehouse or at select Potomac River Running locations); or
- Guaranteed entry into the 2022 race at the prevailing entry fee with 2021 shirts and medals mailed for $10; or
- Donation of your entry fee to Children’s Miracle Network and free shipping of any medals or shirts ordered.
